GS18 Call for African Agripreneurs
We are pleased to announce that the Gender Summit Africa submissions for agripreneur exhibits are now OPEN. The deadline for submitting abstracts is 31 December 2019.
Are you an agricultural entrepreneur (agripreneur) working to develop innovative climate-smart interventions? Are you a woman-founded or -led enterprise? Does your product contribute to promoting a sustainable and equitable future, especially for women farmers in Africa? Does your enterprise set up structures to support smallholder farmers in the value chain and/or create enabling conditions for inclusive agriculture?
What is it?
The Gender Summit - Africa is led by Portia and AIMS, in partnership with science institutions across Africa. The two-day programme is a platform for dialogue where over 300 scientists, policymakers, gender scholars and stakeholders in science systems will examine new research evidence showing when, why, and how biological differences (sex) and socio-cultural differences play a role in steering development in our society. This year’s Gender Summit will focus on applying a scientific perspective on the interactions between agriculture, climate change and gender issues. It will also identify cases of best practice in innovation, development interventions, education, entrepreneurship, and policy measures relevant for Africa.
This year, we are pleased to introduce the African Agripreneur Exhibitions to provide a platform where fledgling and established agripreneurs can showcase their innovative and impactful work.
Those selected will secure an exhibition stand at the Gender Summit Africa, taking place in Nairobi, Kenya from 8-9 March, 2020. In addition, exceptional agriprenurs may be selected to give a five-minute pitch at the plenary on their unique business/product/idea.
Who can apply?
We welcome applications from both start-ups and fully-fledged agricultural focused enterprises, especially those founded or led by women and/or with a focus on climate-smart agricultural interventions. Kindly note that we encourage applications from diverse groups including, but not limited to, women, indigenous people, persons with disabilities, minorities, and persons of any marginalized groups. A preference will be given to African applicants or enterprises operating primarily in Africa.
How to apply?
All interested participants are required to submit their entry proposal by 31 December 2019, to firstname.lastname@example.org. Please use the template to prepare your submission and learn about the requirements. Exhibitions will be selected on the basis of quality, innovation, and potential for impact as assessed by the Review Panel.
Agripreneurs selected for the Gender Summit Africa exhibition are responsible for insurance/shipping/delivery/pickup and preparation of works, as well as any unusual installation requirements and involvement in the opening reception. GS18 reserves the right to review all works exhibited.
The conference cannot offer travel or accommodation support for the selected exhibitions, although exceptional circumstances will be taken into consideration when possible.
