Integrating Sex, Gender, and Intersectional Analysis into Research Design

Background

The Gendered Innovations website introduces researchers, engineers, senior academic staff, public and private funders, editors of peer-reviewed journals, and stakeholders in science to sex and gender analysis as determiners of quality of results and outcomes in research and innovation. The mission of Gendered Innovations is to explain how and why sex- and gender-related issues influence research and innovation decisions when setting priorities, designing studies, communicating results. The purpose of this training workshop is to connect sex and gender analysis with intersectional variables such as age, ethnicity, race, etc. and also to show that such analyses apply also to non-human subjects. This workshop is a response to the European Commission’s Horizon Europe’ new policy stating that “the integration of the gender dimension will be a requirement by default in research and innovation content across the whole programme, unless its nonrelevance is duly justified In addition to sex and gender, researchers will also be expected to take into account “intersecting factors” such as ethnicity, disability and sexual orientation as part of this push.

Each speaker will talk for 10 minutes with 10 minutes of discussion after each talk. This workshop prioritizes discussion with participants.
