Janet Stotsky is an independent consultant on fiscal policies and gender. She was an economist with the International Monetary Fund for 21 years, where she held managerial positions in the Fiscal Affairs and African Departments, and in the Office of Budget and Planning (in the Office of the Managing Director). She led teams to negotiate IMF programs, prepare IMF surveillance reports on macroeconomic developments, and provide technical assistance on fiscal policies and administration.
She is currently a part-time visiting scholar in the IMF's Research Department, leading a project on gender budgeting, which is examining how governments throughout the world use fiscal policies to advance women's development and achieve gender equality. She is widely published on public finance, gender, and macroeconomic issues. She has taught at American University and Rutgers University, and has a Ph.D. in economics from Stanford University and a B.A. in economics from Princeton University.
